How the images are made
Last updated: 11 October 2026
In short
- Every image on SIXFINGERS is made by AI. No person draws them.
- They come from the AI Horde, a network of volunteers who lend their graphics cards, run by the non-profit Haidra.
- Your prompt goes from your browser to the Horde and then to a volunteer, with no name attached.
- Images made this way are shared with LAION, a public research dataset.
- Images are labelled as AI-generated, on screen and inside the downloaded file.
The path of a prompt
- You type a prompt and choose a machine.
- Your browser sends it directly to the AI Horde, with the anonymous key. SIXFINGERS has no server in between. The Horde sees your IP address.
- The Horde hands the job to a volunteer's graphics card, anywhere in the world. The volunteer gets the prompt and the settings, without your IP address or any other personal information.
- The volunteer's machine draws six images and sends them back to the Horde.
- The Horde stores them on Cloudflare R2, behind links that expire after 30 minutes. Your browser fetches them and keeps them.
Who runs the AI Horde
The AI Horde is a crowdsourced network. People with spare graphics cards run a program that takes jobs from the Horde and does them for free. It is run by Haidra, a non-profit association in Luxembourg. SIXFINGERS is not part of Haidra; it is one of many sites that use the Horde.
The Horde's own privacy policy: aihorde.net/privacy.
The seven machines
Each machine is an AI image model. Six are versions of Stable Diffusion 1.5, retrained ("fine-tuned") for a particular look; Cold Snap is Stable Diffusion 2.1.
- Standard (Stable Diffusion 1.5 itself)
- Cold Snap
- Daydream
- Inkwell
- High Gloss
- Merge of Merges
- Photographic
Stable Diffusion 1.5 is released under the CreativeML Open RAIL-M licence and Stable Diffusion 2.1 under the CreativeML Open RAIL++-M licence. Both forbid some uses. Our terms of use list them.
Filters
- The Horde runs its own safety filter, which blocks attempts to make sexual images of children and censors adult content.
- SIXFINGERS asks the Horde for safe images only, and asks it to censor anything adult that slips through.
- SIXFINGERS also blocks a list of words before anything is sent.
No filter is perfect. An image may occasionally be strange or unexpected. If the Horde rejects a prompt, it logs it with your IP address for 30 days and anonymises the record after 365 days.
Sharing with LAION
When images are made through the Horde with anonymous access, as SIXFINGERS does, they are always shared with LAION. LAION is a public dataset used for AI research and for training new models. This is a condition of using the Horde anonymously. It is one more reason not to put anything personal in a prompt.
How images are labelled
The EU AI Act asks that AI-generated images can be recognised as such. SIXFINGERS does two things:
- On screen, images are visibly marked as made by AI.
- Downloaded images carry a machine-readable label in their metadata: the IPTC "trainedAlgorithmicMedia" tag, the standard way to say a picture was made by an AI model.
If you share an image, please keep it clear that it is AI-made.
How to lend your GPU
The Horde only works because volunteers share their machines. If you have a suitable graphics card, you can become a worker:
- Read about the Horde and get a key at aihorde.net.
- Install the worker program: github.com/Haidra-Org/horde-worker-reGen.
Your card then makes images for people on SIXFINGERS and on every other site that uses the Horde.
